Press release: AFTER THE FIRST COURSE Image Comics' CHEW marks the first quarter of its run with a special 15th issue
CHEW is a certified hit, and to celebrate CHEW's 15th issue, which marks the end of the first quarter of the book's run and hits store shelves September 29, writer John Layman and artist Rob Guillory are thanking fans with a slew of special features.
"We wanted to do something really special for CHEW #15," says Layman. "Honestly, we never thought we'd make it this far, and we wanted to do something above-and-beyond for the fans and retailers who have supported us."
Layman adds, "We're going 60 issues, and CHEW #15 is the quarter mark of the run. This is a big issue in a lot of ways. We introduce the last two remaining major supporting characters in the book, which would be eventful enough. But there are also a couple of shocking events -- one so big, it's really going to fundamentally change the book. So, we thought we'd commemorate the issue with something special. Extra pages. A tri-fold poster cover. And we're giving you all the goodies for $2.99 -- the same price as a regular issue of CHEW!"
"Nothing will be the same after CHEW #15," declares Guillory. "That's not hype. Not a gimmick. The status quo of this book is about to be annihilated."
CHEW #15 is the final chapter of "Just Desserts" and the biggest story in CHEW history, figuratively and literally. As we reach the one-quarter mark of the CHEW run, the last remaining major characters are introduced and an event transpires that is so shocking and unexpected it changes the book forever, fundamentally and irrevocably.
CHEW #15, a full-color 32-page comic book from Image Comics featuring more story pages and a tri-fold poster cover, will be available for $2.99 on September 29, 2010.
"This is probably my favorite comic on the market right now."
"CHEW kicks off a new story arc in one of the best issue to date, packed to the gills with action, romance and of course, the consumption of blood, guts, and gore. Showing no signs of slowing down, only more hysterical and eclectic storytelling, CHEW continues to be a must-read for comic fans."

"...Just as hilarious, depraved and entertaining as ever."
"It seems every time I pick up an issue of CHEW, I know before I even open it that I will be entertained. "
"Once again this title is outlandishly weird, but it follows its own internal logical perfectly, and is just this wonderful oddball thing that is impeccably strange and entertaining."
"With his hilarious facial expressions and great comedic timing, artist Rob Guillory is the reason why every single joke in this book works so damn well..It's easily the funniest comic book on the stands.
The final stop of CHEW tour Italia saw Layman and Rob heading to Treviso for a presentation and Q&A at a packed house at the Spago Paraggi art gallery, moderated and translated by Michele Foschini of BAO Publishing (publishers of CHEW: MENU DEGUSTAZIONE*). In the background, is the gallery's current exhibition, photographs of deceased 80s Italian porn star Moana Pozzi.
And some shots of lovely Treviso:
*Note: For all you CHEW completist weirdos who live in the U.S., we will be offering details for how to order BAO's Italian edition.
And Layman survived the very, very excellent Emerald City Comic Con, vowing never to miss another. A lot of great fans introduced themselves, including Steve Moles, who is daring/insane enough to be the first person to get a CHEW tattoo (or, at least, to make it known to us.) His a picture of his tattoo, the Gallsaberry alien fruit, in all its tattoo-y glory:
Here's the just-solicted cover to #12, coming in June, and the #13 cover we debuted at the show.
Tony Chu is a cop with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he's a hell of a detective, as long as he doesn't mind nibbling on the corpse of a murder victim to figure out whodunit, and why. It`s a dirty job, and Tony has to eat terrible things in the name of justice. And if that wasn`t bad enough, the government has figured out Tony Chu`s secret. They have plans for him… whether he likes it or not. Presenting the Harvey award and multiple Eisner award winning, New York Times Best Selling series about cops, crooks, cooks, cannibals and clairvoyants, written by JOHN LAYMAN (Detective Comics, Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness, Marvel Identity Wars annuals and PUFFED) with mind-blowing art by ROB GUILLORY.
